Building technology from Tanzania: why geography matters
Founding Team
Eclipse Tech Labs is proudly based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We believe geography matters deeply in technology. Where you build shapes what you build and how you build it.
Constraints drive creativity
Building from Tanzania means operating under constraints that Silicon Valley engineers don't face: unreliable power in some regions, expensive data, intermittent connectivity, and a consumer market with different purchasing power and preferences.
These constraints have made us better engineers. When you cannot assume always-on connectivity, you build offline-first. When every kilobyte costs money, you optimise relentlessly. When your users have limited patience for complexity, you design for simplicity.
Global ambitions, local roots
We believe the best technology companies of the future will come from places like Tanzania — not despite their geography, but because of it. Solving hard problems with scarce resources builds resilience and creativity that cannot be taught in a well-funded accelerator.
Our products are built for the global market, but they are shaped by Tanzanian context. We think that is a competitive advantage.
Building the ecosystem
Beyond our own products, we are committed to building the Tanzanian technology ecosystem. We hire locally, mentor young engineers, contribute to open source, and share what we learn. A rising tide lifts all boats, and we want the Tanzanian tech sector to rise.
